Tomorrow is my husband’s birthday.
I think I’m more excited than him.
Ever since I was a kid, I have LOVED birthdays…everything about them. I think it’s because my mom would make such a big deal out of them. She’d come into my room first thing and wake me up with a LOUD rendition of “Happy Birthday.”
She also planned to coolest parties.
Like the time when I dressed like a little pirate and we had a treasure hunt in the backyard. Or the time when we played all these awesome relay games. Or the coolest Sweet Sixteen party ever, complete with great food and karaoke.
I was so blessed to have a mom who valued celebrating life like that, and it’s something I definitely want to pass on to my kids when I have them.
As for this weekend? We’re gonna party hard! And by that I mean, there’ll be lots of Coke Zero. Ha.
So what about you? Do you like celebrating birthdays? When is yours? What’s the best birthday party that’s ever been thrown in your honor or that you’ve ever thrown? What’s your favorite birthday memory?

Happy B-day to your man. I get it, my mom made a big deal of b-days for us growing up. I always have to manage my expectations for this reason. I'm a Halloween baby. 😉

Ah, expectations. I've wrestled with that a time or two myself.
I love birthdays too, although I'm not very crafty or party-plannerish. So my kids may be disappointed whenever they start having parties and other kids say, "What's that, um, blob on the wall?" "Oh, it's just my mom's version of Mickey Mouse."
Sarah, I'm totally LOLing! I'm not crafty either. I like to plan, but my crafts never come out the way they should.
I love birthdays! My birthday falls in October, the 13th so sometimes it's on Friday…my husband gets a kick out of doing goofy things like putting a ladder with a stuffed black cat in the living room. Waking me up to one of those CDs that have ghost music on it. The list goes on! We have bonfire birthdays and I always love that!
That's…totally…awesome! My b-day is right around Thanksgiving, but no one has ever done anything Thanksgiving-themed for me. Ha! Yay for fall birthdays!
Wish Mike a happy birthday for me!
My mom always made our favorite foods on our birthdays. She always tried to make them special for us.
Have a great time at the party!!!
My mom always made me chicken and dumplings. Was I a weird kid 'cuz I didn't want pizza? 😉
And thanks! It should be good once I buy all the food, etc…
Happy birthday to your guy. I hope you have tonz of fun celebrating.
My birthday is smack dab in the middle of the summer on 7/17. The best party I ever had was when my hubby and daughter arranged a surprise lunch at my favorite Mexican food restaurant with some of my best gal pals. I had no idea what they were up to. They were pretty pleased with themselves for having pulled it off, since I'm a hard one to surprise.
I'll be celebrating my birthday this year BIG time, sharing the actual day with blogging buddies over in Seekerville. Since my debut novel comes out in July, that's a pretty cool birthday present. =)
Wow, how cool that your birthday is right after your book release! You'll be able to celebrate (a) another year of amazing life and (b) a dream achieved. I'll be celebrating for you!
My birthday is on April 25th and the day after my second birthday, on April 26th, my little sister was born. We've always shared birthday parties and birthday cake and I loved it. Now that she's in Colorado (and I'm in Minnesota) it doesn't quite feel the same. In between having my kiddos I was able to travel to Colorado for a few of our birthdays (last year was one of them!). This year we were able to talk on the phone and Skype each other. It makes me miss her so much.
Good luck with the party plans!
That so cool, Gabrielle! My brother's birthday is 16 days after mine, but I'm pretty sure we usually had separate parties because we are 4 years apart, so our friends wouldn't be interested in the same things! 🙂
And I love Skype. Best invention ever!
Hey!! I'm commenting late…as you know, I'm in South Carolina with the other MBT ladies and we don't get good Internet at the house. So we road-tripped to B&N for some wi-fi bonding time. 🙂 I hope you have a blast celebrating your husband's birthday.
One of my favorite birthday memories is when I turned like six or seven and not only did I get the My Little Pony I sooo desperately wanted, but my cake was also decorated with the same pony. It was…awesome!
Stupid Blogger won't let me post beneath your post, Mel. Grr.
I hope you're having so much fun! That stinks about the internet, but oh well…guess it will be a real retreat!! Ha.
I never got into My Little Pony all that much. I was all about the Barbies. Oh yeah.
