Music has always spoken deeply to my heart. God has often
used it to touch my spirit right where I’m at, to bring me back to Him, to give
me encouragement.

So it’s no surprise that it delighted me to no end when my
husband—not normally a singer (though I love his voice)—sang to me at our
wedding reception.

He sang a Steven Curtis Chapman song I’d never heard before,
but the lyrics have stuck with me ever since, and it’s sort of become our song.

Every time we’re apart for any length of time (like last
week when he traveled for business), I play the song and I’m comforted.
week when he traveled for business), I play the song and I’m comforted.
Here are the lyrics. Aren’t they beautiful?
We Will Dance
I’ve watched the
sunrise in your eyes
sunrise in your eyes
And I’ve seen the
tears fall like the rain
tears fall like the rain
You’ve seen me fight
so brave and strong
so brave and strong
You’ve held my hand
when I’m afraid
when I’m afraid
We’ve watched the
seasons come and go
seasons come and go
We’ll see them come
and go again
and go again
But in winter’s chill,
or summer’s breeze
or summer’s breeze
One thing will not be
changin’
changin’
We will dance
When the sun is
shining
shining
In the pouring rain
We’ll spin and we’ll
sway
sway
And we will dance
When the gentle breeze
Becomes a hurricane
The music will play
And I’ll take your
hand
hand
And hold you close to
me
me
And we will dance
Sometimes it’s hard to
hold you tight
hold you tight
Sometimes we feel so
far apart
far apart
Sometimes we dance as
one
one
And feel the beating
of each other’s hearts
of each other’s hearts
Some days the dance is
slow and sweet
slow and sweet
Some days we’re
bouncing off the walls
bouncing off the walls
No matter how this
world may turn
world may turn
Our love will keep us
from fallin’
from fallin’
And we will dance
When the sun is
shining
shining
In the pouring rain
We’ll spin and we’ll
sway
sway
And we will dance
When the gentle breeze
Becomes a hurricane
The music will play
And I’ll take your
hand
hand
And hold you close to
me
me
And we will dance
The music will play
And I’ll hold you
close
close
And I won’t let you go
Even when our steps
Grow weak and slow
Still I’ll take your
hand
hand
And hold you close to
me
me
And we, will dance
Your Turn: Do you and
your significant other have a special song? What song has been special to you
lately, whether you’re single or attached? How has God used music in your life?

Okay, this isn't so much about me as it is my parents, but it's just one of my favorite things…when my parents were teens, my dad's family moved away. So my mom wrote a song called "Two Leaves," which was all about one leaf floating away while the other stayed on a tree forlornly…and then at the end of the song, the second leaf drifts away too and it ends, "Will they meet again?" HIlarious…but also so totally sweet. (And they obviously did meet again because, after all, I exist!) My mom recently wrote another song about a mailman who's really concerned about the weather (my dad is a mailman). Hehehe…they're so cute!
Aw, that's adorable!! I love that you have such good role models to look up to.
Nice song!
When Scott went overseas for the second time, it was during war time so many people dedicated songs to their servicemen on the radio.
I always dedicated "Right Here Waiting" by Richard Marx because it was written by a man longing to be home again with his wife. Sigh. Perfect lyrics:
Oceans apart day after day
And I slowly go insane
I hear your voice on the line
But it doesn't stop the pain
If I see you next to never
How can we say forever?
Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you…
Ahhh, young love. 🙂
So sweet, Ruth. Honestly, I don't know how you did that. I really don't. I hate it when Mike's gone for like 2 days!
What a special surprise your hubby planned for you! That's awesome. My favorite worship song lately has been "Forever Reign." My iTunes has been working some overtime on that one, lol.
Have a great weekend, Lindsay!
Ooo, that's a good one. I love worship music, especially when there's one song that just seems to speak to my heart in a big way.
I love that! Awesome lyrics. I LOVE music and it's so helpful to me especially when writing.
My husband wrote and composed a song for me and sang it at our wedding. It was so wonderful. I love to hear him sing!
I love music too. And that is so stinking cute and sweet that your hubby WROTE you a song!! Do you have it recorded? I hope so.
So romantic in the best of meanings. We danced to Fields of Gold.

I love dancing together! It's the best.
I love My Fair Lady and especially the song, On the Street Where You Live. When my husband and I first dated he was doing a special project in his choir class where he had to find three songs, practice them and then perform them. One of the songs he chose was Harry Connick Jr.'s rendition of On the Street Where You Live and David would often sing it for me when we went on walks. When we bought our first house, it was the house next door to where I lived in high school, and the first day there Dave broke into song. 🙂 When I wrote an article for Minnesota Moments Magazine about our new house, that was the title of the article.
I love that your hubby sang for you, especially because it wasn't something he usually does.
Yay, I love musicals (as you well know!). So cool that you bought a house next door to where you lived before. That must have been full of memories!
How wonderfully romantic, Lindsay! Just makes a girl sigh. Big. 🙂 Growing up in a musical family and now serving as a worship leader, music is a HUGE part of my life. Music is my soul's language. For the past couple of years, David Crowder's "How He Loves Us" has become central for me as it reiterates God's lavish, outrageous love toward us.
"He is jealous for me, loves like a hurricane, I am a tree; bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy. When all of a sudden I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory, and I realize just how beautiful You are and how great Your affections are for me. Oh, how He loves us. We are His portion and He is our prize; drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes. If His grace is an ocean, we're all sinking. And heaven meets earth like an unforeseen kiss, and my heart turns violently inside of my chest. I don't have time to maintain these regrets when I think about the way He loves us."
Just makes a girl sigh. BIG TIME.
I remember CRYING MY EYES OUT when I heard that song for the first time. Beautiful. Awe-inspiring that He loves us THAT MUCH, isn't it?
What a sweet song your husband sang to you, Lindsay. I listen to music all the time—except for when I write (I can't concentrate when my favorite lyrics are begging to be heard). Sometimes music has been the only thing that comforts me during hurting times. I'm also mildly obsessed with reading books about music & how it affects the brain. It fascinates me, how some people consider music a must-have, but others (like my husband) are fine without it.
Music has been such a friend to me in hard times too, Barb. God uses it to soothe my spirit.
"Our" song is I Could Not Ask for More by Edwin McCain. I had "ICNAFM" inscribed on the inside of Brian's ring.
That's so awesome! I love that song.
My husband and I love a cheesy song that came out in the 60s. "I love you more today than yesterday, but not as much as tomorrow."
I haven't heard that one, but that's too cute!
Oh so lovely Lindsay!
Bless you for sharing 🙂

Thanks, Ganise! And thanks so much for stopping by. 🙂
