blog today. Lisa amazes me: she works full time, is a wife, has grown
kiddosโwho Iโm sure still need her and just a little of her attentionโand has
had two books published. Lakeside Family just
released this month from Love Inspired; see the end of this post for your
chance to win a copy.

thing or two about romance. She and her husband have two college-aged sons and
will be facing an empty nest soon. By day, Lisa is an early childhood educator,
and by night, she is a contemporary romance novelist with Love Inspired.
Lakeside Reunion, her debut novel, is a 2012 Carol Award Finalist. Lakeside
Family, her second novel, releases in August 2012. She is represented by
Rachelle Gardner of Books & Such Agency. In her free time (ha!), Lisa enjoys
good books, chick flicks, crafting with friends and feeding her NCIS addiction.

about herself and her writing.
first story you ever wrote, no matter how old you were! How old were you, what
was it about, and what was your inspiration for it?
been hooked on teen romances from First Love by Silhouette. So, of course, my
first story was a romance called The Bossโs Son. This girl falls in love with
her fatherโs bossโs son. The only piece of riveting dialogue I remember is the
girlโs father asking his wife, โHoney, have you seen my green tie?โ Engaging,
isnโt it??
youโve come a long way, Lisa!! Speaking of your writing, Lakeside Family is the beautiful story of a young girl fighting for
her life. You seem to have a special place in your heart for childrenโespecially
since you work with them all day during your full-time job! Is there one child
whose story has particularly inspired you?
physical and mental abilities, she has a gift of encouragement. She is a sweet,
sweet person who is able to make others feel great about themselves. Lilly
doesnโt realize sheโs different from other kids. She doesnโt hate.
to be admired for sure. I simply loved the setting of your two books. Is Shelby
Lake a real or imagined place? If itโs real, tell us about one of your own
adventures there. If imagined, how did you dream it up?
the world. Iโm surrounded by Godโs artistry with lakes, mountains, and
watercolor backdrops every season. When I started this series, I wanted a small
town setting to give readers a hometown feel. My friend Amy likens Shelby Lake
to Stars Hollow from the Gilmore Girls.
I played around with names until I found one I liked.
I just get brown and more brown colors here in Phoenixโฆyear round. LOL. And I
love Gilmore Girls! Moving onโฆIโve
often heard it said that, as writers, we add pieces of ourselves or people we
know into our stories. So Iโm curious: In what ways, if any, does your main
character Josie resemble you?
baking skills exceed mine. When I started Lakeside
Family, Hubby had lost his job due to economic downsizing. My childcare
business kept us going. Josieโs struggles with money and hope and faith
mirrored mine. I had moments of shaky faith. Also I can be a bit of a control
freakโฆif Iโm in control of the situation, then I know the outcome. Surrendering
control can be tough at times.
Okay, so letโs get to know the author behind the book a little more. Since you
write romance, this is appropriate: Whatโs your perfect idea of a date night
with your man?
eating out, fishing in the stream, or cuddling on the couch watching a movie. I
just like the time together to talk, snuggle, and just be there for one
another. A great day would be fishing with him on the stream, followed by a
yummy dinner and ending the day with a good movie or two.
romantic! Okay, weโll end with a fun question: Youโre locked in a room for a
week and only allowed three items (no people allowed!). What are they?
community all in one package), lip balm, and bottled waterโฆIโm assuming food
and necessities will be provided?
to eat! Hehe. What about the rest of
you? What three items would you bring?

space of a minute, Nick Brennan learns he has a nine-year-old daughterโ and
that she desperately needs his help. All this time, his high school sweetheart,
single mother Josie Peretti, thought he knew about their child. And that he

Fun interview, Lindsay and Lisa! The book looks great. I was laughing at Lisa's one piece of riveting dialogue she wrote when she was sixteen. I can so relate. ๐
If I were lucky enough to be locked away in a room for a week with no interruptions, I'd have to bring my laptop, my kindle, and my cell phone (gotta call and check on the kids at least a few times, right?) ๐
I agree that the Kindle would be a must, since you would technically get more than one book but it would count as one. ๐
Heidi, there are days during my writing when that sixteen-year-old me wrote better. ๐
Love Lisa! And I love that 23 years!!!
~ Wendy
Isn't that awesome? I love commitment!
Thanks, Wendy! Our marriage has had some dark moments, but God's Light shined through.
Yay for Lisa Jordan! And yay for two of my favorite writing friends in one place.
If stuck in a room–my iPhone, my laptop, and an endless supply of Diet Coke with Lime. ๐
Haha, how could I have guessed that?!
Melissa, you are the only person I know who drinks Diet Coke with Lime. I love your uniqueness.
I'm also assuming basic needs are provided when I say my Laptop with Internet, iPhone and Kindle!
Loved hearing about your first book.
Good picks! My iPhone would be a must as well.
This is great!
Thanks! And thanks for stopping by.
Thanks!
Lisa, you described Lilly so beautifully: "Lilly doesnโt realize sheโs different from other kids. She doesnโt hate." WOW. It's so awesome that you knew you wanted to be a writer at age 16. I was still trying to figure out how to get rid of pimples. ๐ Congratulations on your new release!!
I love Lisa's heart for kids, especially those with special needs.
Donna, when we meet face to face in Dallas (Can't wait!!), I will show you a picture of my sweet Lilly. She is such a joy. She is the light of my heart. I'm a better person for having her in my life.
If I was stuck in a room for a week, I'd bring my laptop (with internet!), my pillow and comfy pants! I need some good R&R!
Ooo, your description makes me wanna cuddel up on the couch and read a good book…instead of working.
It's raining out, so comfy pajamas are just the ticket for a dreary evening! At first, I read your R & R as M & M and I was right there with you! ๐
Great interview ladies! I'd have my laptop, cell, unlimited coffee with creamer. My choice. ๐
Hehe, you and your CAWFEE!
Thanks, Jess! I simply can't imagine you without coffee!
Fun interview, ladies!
Stuck in a room – laptop, some sort of caffeine, and my Bible.
Definite must-haves, Loree!
Notice how most people have mentioned a laptop?? We are writers–we need our tools!
Great interview ladies- thanks so much.
There's no way you look old enough to have been married 23 years and have grown kids! You age well ๐
TC, you just made my day! Thanks for the compliment.
Thanks for stopping by, TC! ๐
LindsAy, thanks so much for helping me celebrate the release of Lakeside Family. I'm so excited to meet you in person in less than a month!
You are so welcome, Lisa! Thanks for being my guest today. ๐ And I'm so excited for that too!!!
Such a good interview–arent interviews the best, Lindsay? And hmmm….stuck in a room for a week? Tough question! Definitely coffee (my Keurig w/K cups!) and maybe my elliptical machine to burn off energy. And a phone so I could text/call my husband. Actually, chuck it all, I would just want my husband! Sorry, I broke the rules, Lindsay!
LOL! Guess I can't fault a girl for loving her hubby so much. ๐
Aw, that's so sweet!!!
Fully loaded tablet/phone/music/movie player thingy.(Hey HDG, it would so obviously have LOTM on it)
Hammock.
Tea kettle.
Ooo, a hammock! Sounds heavenly.
For sure, JM. For sure. And I love that hammock idea.
