I don’t know about
you, but I’m busy.
you, but I’m busy.
I know I’ve written
blog posts about this too. Recently, in fact.

And I’m not
complaining. Not at all. Because being busy means I have a lot going on. And
having a lot going on, in my mind, means I’m blessed. I have a full life, with
satisfying work, amazing friends and family, and a passion for living.

But sometimes, that
can all get overwhelming.

So we take little
breaks. We need them. Without them, our engines would keep running full steam
ahead—and would eventually explode.

And of course, that
would be bad.

So I’ve been
thinking: What if we all just slowed down? Just for a day? Even for a weekend
if we could manage it?

How amazing would
that be?
that be?
How refreshed would
we feel?

To take time to just…be?
To enjoy those things you don’t often get to do, simply because you’re going,
going, going?

Well, I’m taking
that challenge. I cleared off most of this weekend for just that purpose.

Hardly any plans.
Time to relax, read,
write, reflect.
write, reflect.
And I couldn’t be
more stoked.
more stoked.
I’d issue the challenge to you as well. Is there a day or
an entire weekend that you can devote to relaxation, rejuvenation, and
enjoyment? What would you do on a day like that?

Oh, Lindsay! If only…..
I think a bunch of us should go in on a writer's retreat – kinda like a time-share program for writers – and have little cottages or cabins in secret hideaways solely for this purpose. There would be no social media allowed (cells for emergency use only) and all the walls would be lined with the books that we never have time to read.
Who wants to sign up?
Me!! MEMEMEME!! I'll bring the triple chocolate cheesecake and whatever else fits into my van.
Dibs on the hammock!!!
That would be so incredibly fun…and relaxing!
I'm in!!!
Oh yes! Probably this weekend I will relax and maybe do some artwork in addition to writing. Yay!!
I know that's super relaxing for you. I'll be reading!
Yep, I usually dial down social media on the weekends and I rarely if ever write on Sundays. Sometimes not even on Saturdays except on early Sat. mornings, I get my blog posts up for the week if I haven't done it on the Thursday before).
We need a break from the rush. We need downtime. Chill time. And I bend over backwards to make it on a regular basis so I don't freak out and burn out. Burns hurt.
That's awesome. I really, really need to be better about taking Sundays off to rest.
Well, I've got Saturday through Tuesday off work. Praise Jesus! 🙂 I do have plans to get a lot of writing accomplished during those days, but it's going to be more of a relaxed writing time. It's going to be fun. And I'm going to hide out from the Internet much more than usual. So, it's *almost* a break. 🙂
Enjoy your relaxing weekend, Linds!
You too, Mel! And yes, it definitely counts as relaxing and a break.
This is such a heavenly idea. I need to do it!
Isn't it? It's not my natural instinct, that's for sure.
Well…I'm pretty purposeful about being slow. I don't think rushing is healthy and I find it for me personally to be exhausting and stressful, so most of my days are easygoing. I love it like that. 🙂 If I do need to do appointments, I try to coordinate things on the same day or several days apart. *grin*
That's awesome, Jessica. I should strive to be more like you.
Love this, Lindsay. We've had such a wild summer, there hasn't been much time for extended blocks of quiet, BUT I'm learning the art of snatching moments where I can, for me and for my family. Last night, we scooted out of town and up the mountain for a picnic on the beach. We have plans to go day-camping for a day-long picnic/day in the woods/by the creek soon. We're in a strange season where regular camping trips are eluding us, and lengthy vacations aren't feasible, but snatching moments is adding up to one great lifestyle right now. Thank you for the reminder!
Aw, I love your thoughts on this, Amanda! Little mini-getaways if you can't do a big one…that's awesome.
You are a smart woman to KNOW this concept so early in your life. If we can teach the youngers "be still and know" , then the stress we pull down onto ourselves wont be so bad.
I went on a trek this summer, there was hardly one day that we sat still, but I got to have some serious Jennifer Time. It fed my soul to explore all over Arizona and New Mexico. I met a really awesome, talented, SMART and witty writer chick who is taller than I thought and nicer than I imagined.
AND she shoots classy vacation vlogs too!
I know for a fact, the next day that I am scheduled to do NOTHING is December 26th.
I'm so glad you got to go on that trip…not only because I got to meet you (it's funny that I was taller than you thought, LOL), but because you got to do some soul searching. That's always important!
My youngest starts kindergarten on Tuesday. Oh, I want to have a slow weekend and soak those kids in:)
Thanks for the reminder! It's so hard, but so vital.
So true, Lisa. It IS hard, isn't it? Especially in our go-go-go world.
Summer did fly by fast. It seemed like I wasn't looking and there it went. I know Fall is going to be gorgeous and I'm looking forward to pumpkin seeds – those are yummy!
