I’m thrilled to welcome my good writing buddy, Jill Kemerer, to post here today. I got to meet Jill back in September at the ACFW conference and she is one of the sweetest–and funniest!–people ever. Her generosity knows no bounds and I can’t wait to someday hold one of her books in my hands. So, take it away, Jill…

I’m so excited to be here today, Lindsay, and I’m also full of glee that it’s mid-December. I love Christmas!
As a stay-at-home mom slash full-time writer, I don’t participate in work festivities, so I decided to be my own Secret Santa. Why not?
Things I gladly purchase for myself in December:
- Bags of holiday M&Ms in different varieties. Plain and peanut are essentials, but sometimes I’ll buy a bag of pretzel, mint, or for giggles, all four!
- Scented candles. The smell of cinnamon wraps me up in a warm hug. I also like coffee or cupcake scented candles. Mmm…
- A new day planner for my purse. I like the slim two-dollar jobbies you can find in a supermarket. They don’t weigh my purse down, but they do keep me on track.
- A new pair of slippers. I wear my slippers every day, and they get ratty really quick. With all of the holiday sales, I don’t mind popping a new pair into my cart.
- Hershey’s Pot O’ Gold. Minimum of one box. Preferably two or three, depending on how good the sale is. A buy one get one deal? Yes. Oh, yes.
- Any magazine with one of the following headlines: “Stars Without Makeup,” “Celebrity Nannies Tell All,” or “Best and Worst Beach Bodies.” I’m shameless.
Do you treat yourself special in December? If yes, what is your go-to treat? If not, would you like to try it? Write down one simple thing you’re craving—and satisfy it!
Thanks again, Lindsay, for letting me take over your blog today.
Have a very, merry Christmas!!

*PS – Lindsay here. I’m guest posting today over at the MBT Ponderers blog, chatting about one of the best gifts God gave me this year. Stop by and say hi!
What a fun, fun post, Jill!
I like the idea of being my own Secret Santa!
My go-to treat during the season? Okay, here goes: I do indulge in those Peeps Christmas Trees or Snowmen … I know, I know, they will survive an atomic bomb … blah, blah, blah … but I like 'em.
And I also usually buy one new Christmas CD each year. I love Christmas music!
Beth, have you ever tried putting your Peeps in the microwave and watching them expand? Fun stuff. 🙂
I also like a good Peep now and again! 🙂
I LOVE Peeps!! They're so yummy! I love the idea of buying a new Christmas CD each year. Mandisa has one out–I might have to "steal" your idea! 🙂
This post made me smile, Jill and Lindsay! That last one on your list made me laugh out loud, Jill! I've treated myself this Christmas season with an unending supply of White Chocolate Raspberry coffee creamer. 🙂 And I bought the full Thin Man dvd set…I love old movies and this is a set I've wanted FOREVER…so I finally was just like, dude, I'm buying it and I'm going to watch each one in the set in coming weeks just 'cause I can!!
Oh, love it–I have a four week supply of Cinnabon coffee creamer in my fridge, so I know exactly what you're talking about! Don't you love those old movies? One of my favorites is The Quiet Man. Mm, mm! 🙂
Love this idea, Jill!! This year I've made a few more spontaneous purchases than I usually do. Even though they are for my family or friends, it's fun to not stress over every little penny all the time. I also bought a fun magazine with some great hairstlye ideas – which I usually never do.
When my kids were little, sometimes I would go to Rite Aid and just walk the aisles for an hour. It felt so peaceful for some reason! It was also a great place to get inexpensive sanity savers!
(I'm a sucker for the cute hairstyle issues too!)
Great thoughts here, Jill. I'm a Yankee Candle gal. Love them!
Aren't they the best, Loree? Bed, Bath & Beyond has 25% of their Christmas scents right now, plus if you spend a certain amount, you get a free small candle!
I bought a box of Walker's shortbread in Christmas shapes. I told myself I can't open them until I complete my revisions. Since I've put them off until January so I can enjoy the holidays with my family, my reward will be waiting.
