My awesome critique partner, Melissa Tagg, came to visit me this weekend, and we’ve made a video of the Top Ten essentials for a great brainstorming weekend.
We might come off as crazy, but we had a blast!
Your Turn: What would you need for a great brainstorming weekend, or just a fun weekend with a friend?
Oh my gosh. You girls are so fun, and I feel like I got to hang out with you vicariously via Facebook from all your fun picture posts! Such a great vlog, too.
I'd just add chocolate. I know you said snacks, but I think chocolate goes far beyond the label of "snack"– possibly somewhere in there with "air" and "water". You know, the essentials. 😉
I am now singing, all ya need is love! I know you kept it silly so I'd say, you definitely need to do some people watching while you're out. Fuels tons of creativity.
On a serious note, prayer.

Ahhh, this was soooo fun. I think I'll watch it tonight when I'm back home and depressed that our crazily fun weekend is over. Just remember: June, June, June… 🙂 You're the best, Linz!

What a fun video to watch. What would I need for a brainstorming weekend?
First, a critique partner who was willing and available to participate. (I'm part of a great online critique group through ACFW, but we're all pretty spread out and I'm not sure anybody would be available for an in-person brainstorming weekend like this.)
Second, courage enough to talk about my idea. I hate talking about my story ideas, because no matter how much I love them, when I start trying to talk about them, they sound stupid! (This is the part I'm stressing about in preparing to attend the MBT Deep Thinkers retreat this week.)
Third, time away from the demands of my day job. (I'm a partner at a large law firm and my clients tend to need, or expect, access to me pretty much 24/7.)
Thanks for sharing a glimpse into your weekend, both here and on Facebook. It's been fun to enjoy it vicariously. 🙂

I agree with Amanda, it feels like I was able to hang out with you guys – at least for a little while. 🙂 Looking forward to June!!!!
Now I know what I'll need to put on my shopping list for our brainstorming weekend: Diet Coke with Lime and Starburst jelly beans – although I don't think they're as available in June. 🙂 One thing I think should go on the top ten list is time relaxing! Sometimes just chilling produces the best kind of brainstorming. Also being in nature (which usually goes hand in hand with walking!). I have some fun relaxing time planned hanging out by the river and taking a boat ride when you come to visit. Can't wait!!
I just wrote a huge comment and lost it! ANYWAY, glad you had a blast! Yes, stumbling into that perfect crit partner/friend combo is rare. Usually, it's EITHER/OR for awhile. But once you have a crit partner/friend combo, you can't stop singing its praises!
It looks like a great weekend had by all. I'm glad you got so much accomplished and had a blast doing it! That came through in the video with both of you sporting smiles from ear to ear. 😉
