God is so big.
I often forget just how big — mostly because I’m worried about my own little life right here, right now.
But when I get out in nature, and feel the immensity of the ocean, and the height of the mountains — reaching beyond the clouds, beyond my view — I cannot help but be in awe.
And not just because He created these wonders.
But because He also spent time creating me.
His creations are precious to Him. Even me. Even you.
Especially me. Especially you.
No worship song is as appropriate to express the awe I feel at God and His power and creation than “How Great Thou Art.” I love this version by Carrie Underwood and Vince Gill. It’s just…wow. Have a listen and tell me you didn’t cry. 😉
Your Turn: How does the immensity of nature draw you closer to God? What does it do for your spirit?
I absolutely love this version, Lindsay! I sing it at church and just feel overcome with His presence. He really is great, greater than we can ever imagine. 🙂
Great post! And I'd just like to say CONGRATS on being a Genesis semi-finalist!!! I'm so happy for you girl!
Thanks, Morgan! I was definitely surprised. 🙂 And yes, this version is da bomb!
I love just me, nature, and God. I remember getting up one early morning while we vacationed at the beach. I was the only one there and I wept. Just walked the beach and wept at the overwhelming beauty and power of God. And then sea gulls chased me.Kind of broke the moment. 😉 But it was a marvelous morning none the less.
Haha, a seagull pooped on me once while I lay there reading on the beach…true story. 😛
I feel incredibly blessed to live in a house on the banks of the Mississippi, where I see God's nature revealed in many ways throughout the day and as the seasons progress. Right now a light rain is falling, my window is open and birds are calling high in the treetops. I am in awe of His beauty. I love this version by Carrie Underwood and Vince Gill, but my husband and brother-in-law sang this song together years ago and I still remember how the song reached into my chest and squeezed my heart. It's a beautiful, beautiful song.
I cannot wait to experience the beauty of the Minnesota nature in June!! Yay!
That's one of my favorite hymns.
I love me some nature…as long as I'm dressed for it. Haha! I'll never standing on this hill in Yorkshire in England…it wasn't the MOST picturesque place I saw in Europe. But for some reason, looking out over an incredibly green hillside, I remember just thinking about God and how amazing he is…how he dreamt up colors…there wouldn't be color without God! Yeah, it was a cool moment…
I had a very similar experience in Ireland! I was up on this hill right by the Irish coast and a breeze came…and I just knew it was God whispering to me.
Lindsay, yes! It makes me cry–I love this song and I love their version! Sandi Patty is the only other artist I've heard that can belt it out the way Carrie Underwood does.
Since I'm blessed to live in the mighty Ozarks, I'm surrounded by God's awesomeness. I always consider… if nature and all that He grants us here is so beautiful, can you imagine what Heaven will be like?!
Definitely a cry-worthy version!! Yes, one bad thing about living in Phoenix is that it isn't as beautiful as other parts of the country…though the desert does have a beauty all its own, especially its sunsets.
I love to sit and just watch. My favorite times are in the stillness of the moment. Whether I'm at the beach, outside just listening to the birds or on a hillside somewhere — I think about how small I am in comparison to all He's created but despite how big this world is I am on His mind. How amazing it is to know how great our God is, and that HE cares about us.
Yes…stillness is so rare that I tend to listen when it's there.
Lindsay–I loved this. And I loved this version of, "How Great Thou Art." Just beautiful.
Yes, when I take time to be in the midst of God's creation, I'm often overcome by the immensity and detailed intricacy of all He's created. I love being in the mountains, hearing a stream cascading over rocks and watching the sunlight sparkle on the surface. Especially when it's still, to hear the birdsong in the trees, and see the colorful flowers, it leaves me speechless in wonder.
I love how He envisioned every aspect of His creation and allows us to enjoy it. We truly are nothing in the big scope. And yet to Him we are special. Amazing.
" We truly are nothing in the big scope. And yet to Him we are special. Amazing." Love this, Jeanne. So, so true. And humbling.
Okay, now I'm tearing up over my salad!! What a beautiful version. This has always been a favorite hymn of mine, and to hear the house applauding–well, God does that, doesn't He? The world can't help but praise Him! Thanks, Lindsay!
You're so welcome! 🙂
The first time I heard this, I just started bawling. Thanks for the repeat! God's magnificent creation just reaches into the deepest parts of my soul. That's where I connect with Him in the depths. Amazing grace…
There is definitely something deep about nature. It's such a physical connection to the Creator.
Sunsets always get me. It's God painting His very own picture for me, and it changes every minute to a more spectacular view.
