Last week was emotionally exhausting for me. I’m sure you can relate. There was a lot of extra “stuff” to deal with and my schedule was fuller than usual on top of it all. I didn’t have a chance to deal with all of the emotions I was feeling or really process them.
So, I asked my friends on Facebook to contribute some ideas for relieving my exhausted spirit. They gave me so many amazing answers, and I wanted to share them with you in case they can help you today (I’m summarizing and not using their exact words here):
- Eat chocolate…and pray.
- Let yourself lounge on the couch and think.
- Listen to praise and worship music.
- Clear your to-do list of all but must-do’s.
- Make yourself a cup of tea and bust out the Psalms.
- Cook (whacking veggies can relieve stress!).
- Take a day trip and reflect/pray.
- Get outside. Take a walk or hike. Be quiet.
- Pedicure and/or massage. ‘Nuff said.
- Take mini-breaks and do something you enjoy.
- Let yourself cry.
- Give yourself permission to veg out with a good book or movie.
- Take a bath in a Calgon-scented tub.
- Meet up and chat with a good friend.
- Snuggle with a puppy or cute kiddo.
- Go shopping (hehe, love this option!).
- Take time out and just go somewhere with your hubby.
Thanks again to all of my wonderful friends and their awesome suggestions. I was able to do a few of these and clear my mind. After an awesome weekend, I feel rested and am ready to face another week. I’m praying you have an absolutely amazing week as well!
Your Turn: Anything to add to the list? Which is your favorite suggestion?

Bubble baths!!!
And emailing or texting my friend Lindsay Harrel saying "Pray for me, I'm emotionally exhausted." 🙂 🙂
I'll echo Melissa. 🙂 It's so good to have a friend who gets you, especially one you can relate to. On a writing level, I'm blessed to have you and Melissa and so many others who get what I'm going through. As a mom, I have a handful of friends who have kids who get me. I also have some specific friends with twins who get me. And on and on. It's good to have friends. 🙂
I love all of these! I like to soak in the tub to music and read a book or take a walk or drive. Sometimes (back roads are best) I just ride with the windows down (depending on weather) and crank up my music and just enjoy the drive, let my mind wander. Love you!
So glad to hear you're in a better place this week, Lindsay.
I'm praying that God continues to refresh and strengthen you this week, Friend!
These are really good. I think I've been riding an emotional rollercoaster for over a year now and it can really take you out. I mean, like laying in bed, barely able to keep my eyes open because I'm so emotionally tired.
Thanks for these tips! I missed your post but they look good and I'll be trying them out.
Take care, girlie. 🙂
I just came off of a mini break. It did a world of good. I limited my online playtime, and took a few weeks for a blog break. I feel refreshed. I love your list. We should take time to do all of them at one time or another when we feel overwhelmed. Great post, Lindsay.
I love this list! I did a few creative, non-writing projects last week, and that recharged me too. 🙂 So glad you're feeling better!
Love how this list turned out! I find that sleep is very important when I start getting emotionally drained. Sometimes even a quick nap can recharge me and help me get a fresh perspective.
Music and a mini-vacation. Window shoppng, lunch with a friend…ahhh. Oh, and a new BOOK!!
There's something about painting furniture for. Mindless, repetitive activity to calm me inside. Love it!
You all rock. I love each and every one of your suggestions. I love knowing I have you all in my corner too. What a blessing friends are!
