So I’ve kind of had fun with finding lyrics and quotes that
apply to the writing life—and yes, there are many that do! (In fact, if you
missed my other two posts on this, you can find them here and here.)

So without further ado…classic rock lyrics applied to the
writing life (um, and yes, I DO realize that many of these are taken out of
context…and if I accidentally utter offensive lyrics because of the original
meaning, well, it’s unintentional!):

Yeah, this is one of my new favorite posts. Love it!! I cracked up at the what we feel like agents/editors are saying one. 😉 Hilarious!
I'm going to go slightly cliche and say Journey's Don't Stop Believing…the title says it all, yeah?
Love it, Linds!
It may be cliche, but that's okay, because it TOTALLY applies. And if I'd thought of it, it would probably be on this list. 😛
What fun! You're so clever. 🙂
Haha, thanks, Amanda. I wasn't sure if I was clever or just crazy…
"Whoa-oh, we're halfway there, whoa-oh, livin' on a prayer!!"
Van Halen, I think.
Londsay, this was a blast!!What a great idea!!
I'm so important, I changed your name for you.
;P
I've had this song in my head all day since reading this post!
I sang all the tunes as I read through them. It's a good thing I'm by myself. LOL!
I'm sure the dogs appreciated it. 😛
Hilarious!!! When writers get a contract and the advance comes…Pour some sugar on me!!! LOL LOVE this!
Yes!! Awesome one!
Fun post.
I'm still a Steely Dan and Mellencamp fan.
I confess I haven't really listened to much of that. But since you like it, it must be great music. 🙂
Very fun! Yes, I've definitely enjoyed "Don't Stop Believin'" (though I've done just that, several times). And "Livin' on a Prayer!" (Jon Bon! It's Jon Bon, Jennifer! Grin). There's also a current Christian song (just found it here: Brandon Heath's "Your Love": http://www.songlyrics.com/brandon-heath/your-love-lyrics/)that says "You know the effort I have given, And You know exactly what it cost." Sometimes, I definitely feel God's the only one who knows all the hard work/tears/prayers I've put into this!
Fun walk down memory lane!
Thank you Heather! I had his face in my mind, but I couldn't remember the name.
I love that Brandon Heath song! So good.
"Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends" – is definitely my favorite! But now I have "I can't get no satisfaction" in my brain and I can't think of any other songs! 🙂
I know, it's so catchy, isn't it?
LOVE this post! And I love classic rock. As a teen in the 80s, there's nothing like Poison, Bon Jovi, Rush, Motley Crue, Def Leppard … and the list could go on. When I disappear, my family (in traditional Bon Jovi fashion) declares, "Wanted: Dead or Alive!"
Nice! I confess my own exposure to classic rock is mostly from my dad, who loves it all. 😉
This is so fun! I'm going to be singing these songs all night!
I totally had them in my head all day! And then popped on Don't Stop Believin' while cooking dinner. Hehe.
fun stuff.
For when agents and/or editors string you on, not ready to commit but not wanting you to sign with anyone else:
I am just a poor boy
Though my story's seldom told
I have squandered my resistance
For a pocket full of mumbles such are promises
All lies and jests
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest
(THE BOXER – Simon and Garfunkel)
For the writer who wants to give up:
In the clearing stands a boxer
And a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders
Of ev'ry glove that layed him down
Or cut him till he cried out
In his anger and his shame
"I am leaving, I am leaving"
But the fighter still remains
(THE BOXER – Simon and Garfunkel)
For the writer who finally debuts on the NY Times Best Seller List:
Sail on Silver Girl,
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
(BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER, Simon and Garfunkel)
Sorry. Simon and Garfunkel are my favorites and I had to put the whole story together (beginning, middle, and end) using their stuff.
How fun, Sally! You totally nailed it! Thanks so much for visiting and contributing like this. 🙂
