It’s here, it’s here, it’s here! The day many of us have been waiting for!
The Hunger Games comes out in theaters today.
Okay, so I’ll admit it. I read each of the books. In about one day each. Yep, they were the Oh-Well-I’ll-Stay-Up-Until-3-AM-and-Just-Be-Tired-For-Work-Cuz-I-Can’t-Put-This-Down kind of books.
What’s so appealing about books where kids are pitted against each other until the death? Where slaughtering each other is expected for survival?
I really have no idea.
I started the books upon recommendation of a friend, and just got completely caught up in the action, the stakes, the characters’ lives… I’ll be honest. I really didn’t think I’d enjoy these books.
But I can’t wait to see them come to life on the big screen.
Of course, there’s a part of me that’s dreading it. What if I’m disappointed? What if the movie doesn’t follow the book? There’s always the risk of that. I’ve been disappointed before, and I’m sure I will again.
Yet, there’s something so amazing about reading a book and then seeing the images that were only in your head now playing out in front of your eyes.
So I wanna know: What book would you love to see turned into a movie? Are there any books you think should be left alone, because there’s too much risk of the movie ruining the book for you? And who else is seeing Hunger Games this weekend?
Oh, I soooo wanted to FINALLY read HG last night (or at least start reading it), but I ran out of time. Waaahhh! So I probably won't see the movie this weekend…but I do want to see it eventually. Or maybe it wouldn't hurt to see the movie first…I don't know…I'm rambling…it's Friday… 🙂
Hmm, a book I wouldn't want to see turned into a movie…I honestly don't know. Ted Dekker's Circle series is one of the most amazing series I've ever read and I might be scared to see what it'd turn out like on screen…
Bummer you didn't get it read, but I'm sure it will be in theaters for awhile. You can go when it's not so crowded! 😛
And I've heard good, good things about Dekker. Will have to check his stuff out!
My daughter, Amy, just finished book 1. She loved it too. Write now I'm on a reading sabbatical. It's all about the deadline, ya know?
I was so, so concerned about The Help becoming a movie. I loved the book — my internal editor never talked back once while I read that book.
But here's the thing, I liked the movie. A lot.
Still l-o-v-e-d the book more — but they did a good job with the movie.
Ah, deadlines…yes, I definitely know about that from my life as an editor and journalist.
I didn't read The Help but loved the movie. And now my step-sister said I should read the book, but it's a lot harder for me to read a book AFTER I've seen the movie. Not sure why.
Have fun watching them! I haven't read them, but I plan on reading them someday! Let us know what you think of the movie. 🙂
Thanks, Jill! I'm sure I'll tweet or facebook post about it! 🙂 Have a great weekend yourself.
I enjoyed The Hunger Games, but wasn't as impressed as I thought I'd be from all the hype out there. But I'm not a teenager anymore either! Ha ha! I will see the movie, too.
I wish they'd make a movie based on the real life story of Louis Zamperini ("Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand) because that is ONE amazing true story of survival, determination, and redemption.
Fun post! 🙂
Hmm, I'm surprised you didn't like them as much…yep, you must just be old. ;P Kidding, kidding.
Haven't read that book, but it sounds amazing!
Yeah, I mean it was good, but I guess I expected to be blown away. Maybe I knew too much about the premise and it spoiled it for me. Who knows…
I can't wait to see Hunger Games! I'm with you. Not sure I'd like it and then couldn't put the book down!
I'd like to see Sandie Bricker's Always the Wedding Planner never the Bride made into a movie if for no other reason, the dialogue is hysterical!
But, I'd LOVE to see Deeanne Gist's A Bride Most Begrudging or A Maid to Match on the big screen. That era is popular right now anyway with Downton Abbey (MTM that is)!
I'm reading Gist's A Bride in the Bargain and really like her style. I've got A Bride Most Begruding in my TBR pile!
And snappy dialogue always makes for a great movie.
I haven't read these books yet, even though people have told me I must. 🙂 I'll be curious how you like the movie!
I will let you know… 🙂
