“Come Thou Fount” is one of my all-time favorite hymns. I love to sing it a capella, without music. The words just…capture me.
And I love Jadon Lavik‘s version of it. It’s peppy and when sung along with the guitar, it’s magic. Take a listen and let your soul seep in the words.
Your Turn: What’s your favorite hymn? Is there a fun “modern” version of that hymn that you love?
I really love Blessed Assurance and To God Be the Glory. And "Wonderful Grace of Jesus." There's a really high note in that song and when we were kids, we loved it when the pastor tried to reach that note. It was hilarious. The church I grew up in has mainly moved to contemporary P&W, but I have to say I'm still a fan of old hymns…not that I don't like current P&W songs. I just love the depth of the lyrics in so many hymns.
Ooo, love Blessed Assurance!! Not sure if I know Wonderful Grace of Jesus, though.
My church does a blend of hymns and contemporary, which I love — because I love both!
As I was watching this video my boys came up and wanted to see it. They grinned as they watched it and Asher missed the screen. I think they liked it. 🙂
I love Amazing Grace. It's my all-time favorite song ever and I love what Chris Tomlin has done with it. I also love this hymn. So beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Yes! That version is…well, amazing! 😛
So glad your kiddos liked the song.
I'm right there with you, Lindsay. This is one of my favorite hymns turned contemporary. I really love it when new artists put a spin on a wonderful, old hymn. It gives those words and truths exposure to a whole new generation. Thanks for the worship time this morning, Friend!
Yes! I love seeing the creativity in reviving something old and making it new again.
LOVE this hymn. The working title for one of my novels is Streams of Mercy. I'm a fan of the old-time hymns. I'll Fly Away and Heavenly Sunlight are two I often sing when no one's listening. (Trust me, it's better that way!)
Ooo, love "I'll Fly Away." Didn't Jars of Clay do a version of that? I don't know if I know "Heavenly Sunlight," though. So many good hymns out there!
