For anyone who knows me, it’s no secret: I adore musicals.
I love watching them. I love singing along with them. I love dancing along with them. I love performing in them. Yep. I adore them.
I also adore writing.
So why not bring the two together?

I LOVE THIS POST. 🙂 I think we're soul sisters!! I adore musicals. I was actually a musical theater major once upon a time– had Broadway dreams. While God put me on a different path, I still perform in my living room quite frequently to standing room only audiences.

I love musicals, too. I adore the Barbra Streisand version of Hello Dolly. (The stage version is great, too, but for some reason, I like the Streisand ending better.) Love Sound of Music, Oklahoma, pretty much anything Rogers & Hammerstein ever created. Yeah, love it all.
And I'm cheating here, because this isn't a lyric, but it is a quote I love from Hello Dolly:

Urinetown is one of my favorites – very clever, and, well, "it's not a happy musical".
Inspiration? In Sondheim's Company, the song Being Alive. The character is talking about relationships, but I can totally see that struggle being applied to writing. 🙂
I actually haven't seen either of those; I tend toward the "happier" musicals, but Sondheim's music is extraordinary, for sure. Thanks so much for stopping by. 🙂

Hi, Amy! Ooo, that's a good show. My first real musical was Man of La Mancha. I was in the chorus, and I have lots of awesome pictures of me with dirty-looking clothes and ratted-out hair (if you haven't seen the show, it takes place in a prison during the Spanish Inquisition).
Funny thing: My daughter and I were singing "The sun will come out tomorrow!" at the top of our lungs today as I drove around town doing errands!
And Wicked? One of my all-time favorite musicals!
Can we come up with something for "I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair" from South Pacific?

Ooooh. From the darker side, Moulin Rouge. The music is incredible and who would have thought Nicole and Ewen could sing?

But my favorite is Nicole's song on the elephant: One day I'll fly away, leave all this to yesterday. Why live life from dream to dream and dread the day when dreaming ends?
And because I'm still an 80's girl and I think Bryan Adams still has it, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron, the animated movie from Dreamworks. Bryan did all the music for it and it's amazing! Does that count?
Moulin Rouge DOES have beautiful music. Haunting, but beautiful.

I am a huge musical fan, as well. Hands down my all time favorite is Seven Brides for Seven Brothers – I think I told you that I was married in June because of the song "June Brides" and I had seven bridesmaids! As a surprise they performed the "June Bride" song for me during our reception! It was one of my all time favorite moments in life.
I love anything with Doris Day, Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Judy Garland to name a few. Meet Me in St. Louis, Summerstock, Brigadoon, Singing in the Rain, the list goes on and on. I also love all the Rogers and Hammerstein musicals. I've seen Les Miserables on stage twice (once in Minneapolis and once in London) and I was in South Pacific in high school. Good memories!
That is such a fun story about your wedding!! I love that song. Les Mis is soooo good. I've seen it twice as well. It never gets old.
